A podcast about rape culture and victim blaming

Medusa was Framed

About this project

Medusa was Framed is a podcast dedicated to exploring and combatting rape culture by shining a spotlight on how this insidious misogyny has a disproportionate impact on marginalised groups.

Led by journalist Philippa Willitts, Medusa was Framed will delve into the multifaceted aspects of rape culture and victim blaming, shedding light on their deep-rooted causes, effects, and the urgent need for change.

To be accessible to disabled people, who are twice as likely to experience sexual assault, every episode will not only be transcribed but will have an Easy Read summary for learning disabled people, something no other podcast, to my knowledge, has ever done before.

Racialised women and gender-based violence, the queerphobic impact of the growing pattern of calling LGBTQI+ people “groomers”, sexual violence in queer relationships, why we don’t report and disabled women being so disproportionately targeted are all vital topics in rape culture that are under-reported and need to be addressed urgently to begin to redress this balance and explore solutions.

A podcast is an ideal format for nuanced conversations with experts (whether by experience or by profession or activism) that tap into a desire to understand the societal structures that continue to oppress marginalised people.

Philippa was shortlisted for the Georgina Henry award for this podcast.
